While still in her teens, a woman was fascinated by black magic. She married young and protected her only son from illness and misfortune by magic rites. But she realized that toads, lizards, and lambs would not be enough to keep her boy from other women and the imminent war. And so she found an ingenious method of transforming all her hapless friends into bars of soap or strongly flavored biscuits. But one day the truth emerges.
